  1. Provide Rice of any variety
  2. Prepare Chana dal
  3. Take Masoor/Tur dal(split red/yellow lentil)
  4. Prepare Urad dal(split black lentil)
  5. Take Yoghurt or curd
  6. Provide shredded Cabbage
  7. Provide shredded Carrots
  8. Prepare shredded Spinach
  9. You need minced Coriander leaves
  10. Take sliced fresh green or red Chilli
  11. You need Chilli flakes
  12. Take Ginger paste
  13. Get crushed Cumin seed
  14. You need Vegetable oil
  15. Use Fruit salt or Eno
  16. Prepare Salt
  17. Use Sugar
  18. Use For tempering
  19. Provide Vegetable oil
  20. Take Mustard oil
  21. Get Cumin seed
  22. Use white Sesame seeds
  23. Get Curry leaves
  24. Use Hing/Asafoetida
  25. Prepare Little oil to brush the baking dish
Steps to make Handvo:
  1. Soak rice and dal together for 3-4 hours.
  2. Drain water, add curd and blend to a slightly coarse paste.
  3. Transfer to a mixing bowl and add shredded cabbage, grated carrot, shredded spinach, minced coriander leaves and sliced fresh chillies.
  4. Also add  ginger paste, sugar, chilli flakes, crushed cumin seed, oil and salt.
  5. Mix well making sure the batter is slightly thick like idli batter consistency.
  6. Now add eno / fruit salt and mix gently. Note that you should add eno at the time of baking.
  7. Take a round baking dish, brush with little oil and transfer the batter to the dish.
  8. Heat oil and temper with mustard seeds, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, curry leaves and hing/asafoetida.
  9. Spread the tempering over the batter.
  10. Preheat oven at 180 degree C for 10 minutes.
  11. Bake the handvo or savoury cake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick/ satay stick comes out clean.
  12. When the cake comes to room temperature remove the sides with a knife.
  13. Invert the cake to a serving dish.
  14. Cut in pieces and serve this healthy and delicious handvo with green/red chutneys or any kind of pickle.
